Day 0 : Syllabus and scheduling
Hey guys! what's up? Hope you are having a great time.
GATE-2017 results are out, Many students have finally got fruit of their hard work. I am not going into the details of result analysis but if you still hasn't checked your result do it here.
So let's start with today's objective, to schedule the preparation according to syllabus of GATE. Before we start I want to clear that this specific post is for GATE mechanical, If you are from other branches of engineering please have patience we are soon coming up with posts of other branches as well.To start with I have the syllabus of GATE mechanical here..
So it is mainly divided into 4 parts:
1. Engineering mathematics
2. Applied mechanics and design
3. Fluid mechanics and thermal sciences
4. Materials, manufacturing and Industrial engineering
One more part is there which can't be avoided called
This section consists of English (both grammar and vocabulary ) questions and aptitude questions, for which no extra preparation is required. You just practice one question daily of aptitude and one word daily for English, It will be sufficient. For this we'll be posting questions on regular basis on our fb page and blog. All you need to do is just to keep in touch with us.
Talking about 'Engineering mathematics', It consists of 6 topics and roughly 30 subtopics. If done thoroughly and regularly this subject is not going to take more than 20 days. Topics like linear algebra, numerical methods are very easy to understand while probability and calculus are conceptual and time consuming. But on an average a topic can be completed within 3-4 days with sufficient practice.
Second topic is 'Applied mechanics and design'. It is consider by many as the most tough and lengthy part of this syllabus, but if studied properly and sufficiently, it proves to be scoring section. As given in the syllabus, it consists of 5 topics and about 60 subtopics. If done strategically it is not going to take more than 35-40 days to complete this section along with practice.Topics like engineering mechanics, vibration, theory of machine (TOM) are easy to understand while strength of materials (SOM) is on the higher side.
Next topic, though considered as tough topic, is actually very conceptual topic. If you are having your fundamentals strong in this field scoring here becomes like passing knife through butter. 'Fluid mechanics and thermal science' consists of 4 topics and about 80 subtopics. If you do it thoroughly it is not going to take more than 45-50 days. In the past years trend analysis this field is observed as the most important part of exam. So before starting this topic,please don't forget to revisit fundamentals taught in High school and 1st year of B.Tech.
Last but not the least topic is 'Materials, manufacturing and industrial engineering'. You might remember generally parts of this subject are taught in all the four semesters during B.Tech, starting from 3rd sem. to 6th sem. It consists of 8 topics and around 60 subtopics. This section is very easy, though contains some good subtopics. If done properly and regularly it is also going to take about 45 days. It also contains good percentage weightage in exam.
So If analysed overall, to secure a very good rank in GATE,one need to do consistent hard-work for about 5 months.
If you are appearing in GATE-2018, you have still left with 10 months, i.e. double of the time you need for an ideal preparation. So don't worry whatever is your current level of knowledge zero or very good, whatever is your academic performance 5 CGPA or 9 CGPA, start preparation with us from today itself and you will yourself experience the difference.
